UNBISnet -- Interpreting your search results

After performing a search, UNBISnet returns a list of records that match the search criteria you entered. For bibliographic records, UNBISnet displays specific information such as title, publisher, publication date, UN document symbol, call number, and links to full text documents. For voting records, title, UN resolution symbol, vote date and links to full text doucments are displayed. For index to speeches, UN meeting record symbol, speech date, speaker and his/her affiliation and links to full text documents are displayed. Here are some examples:

Tip:  If your search returns only a single item, UNBISnet displays detailed information about the item rather than first displaying the item in a summary list.

After your search results are returned, you can:

To Sort Your Search Results

Tip:  You can choose sort options before UNBISnet displays search results when you do an Bibliographic Record Keyword Search, Voting Record Keyword Search or Index to Speeches Keyword Search.

  1. Search for a library item. UNBISnet displays your search results.
  2. Choose the sorting criteria that you want from the Sort by drop-down list.

  3. Bibliographic records could be sorted by UN Document Symbol, Title and Publication Date;
    Voting records could be sorted by UN Resolution Symbol and Vote Date;
    Index to speeches could be sorted by UN Meeting Record Symbol and Speech Date.
  4. Click Go.

UNBISnet returns a list of search results based on the sort you chose.

To Limit Your Search Results

Tip:  You can choose limiting options before UNBISnet displays search results when you do an Bibliographic Record Keyword Search, Voting Record Keyword Search or Index to Speeches Keyword Search.

  1. Search for a library item.UNBISnet displays your search results.
  2. Choose the limiting criteria that you want from the Limit by drop-down list.

  3. Bibliographic records could be limited by Database, which separates UN and non-UN publiications, Type of Record, which allows users to identify articles from journals and monographs, Type of Materials, Language and Publication Date.
    Voting records could be limited by Action Body, Vote Type and Vote Date;
    Index to speeches could be limited by Action Body and Speech Date.
  4. Click Go.

UNBISnet returns a list of search results based on the limit you chose.

To E-mail your search results

For each item in a search results list, UNBISnet displays specific information (such as the item's title, author, publisher, publication date, call number, and status). You can use e-mail to send this information to a specific e-mail address.

Note:  The record information included in email message are different from those included in the search result page as you see.

Bibliographic records have the following elements in the email message: UN Document Symbol, Title, Physical Description, Current Frequency, Notes, Language, Distribution, Sales Number, Document Number, Micro Number, UN Map Number, ISBN, ISSN, Price, Call Number and Primary Subject.
Voting records have the following elements in the email message: Title, Enhanced Title, UN Resolution Symbol, Vote Date and Voting Summary.
Index to speeches have the following elements in the email message: UN Meeting Record Symbol, Speech Date, Speaker and his/her affiliation.

When a record does not have the above mentioned element, a label with blank data will be included in the email message.

  1. Search for a library item.
  2. Scroll to the bottom of the search results page.
  3. Mark the format in which you would like the information to appear.
  4. Enter the subject of the e-mail in the Subject field.
  5. In the Email to field, enter the e-mail address to where you want to send the information.
  6. Click Send.

UNBISnet sends the search results to the e-mail address you specified.

To Add an Record to My List

My List is a feature that lets you create a temporary list of items from your search results. Each time you add an item to My List, UNBISnet displays the number of items in the current list next to the My List icon. You may add no more than 300 records into My List.

  1. Search for a library item.
  2. Click Add to My List next to the item you want to add.

UNBISnet adds the library item to My List. After you have added an item to My List, you can do these tasks:

To Request Resource from the Library

Request Resource is a feature that allows you to send your request to the library. After the library received your request, a dedicated librarian will contact you and do search on the materials requested by you.
  1. Search for a library item.
  2. Scroll down to Request Resource.
  3. Enter the numbers of the items you want to request in Request Items box.
  4. Enter your name and telephone number.
  5. Enter your office name.
  6. Enter your email address.
  7. Click Request Resource button
UNBISnet will send your request to the library.

Note:  This service is only available for UN staff and staff from Permanent Missions to UN.
