To start a keyword search

  1. Click the New Keyword Search link below the Voting Record Search tab.

  2. Choose the search index that you want to use from one or more of the Search By drop-down lists.

  3. Enter a search term in the field that corresponds to the search index you selected from the Search By drop-down list.

  4. Choose the match options from the drop-down list.

  5. If you are searching by multiple criteria, choose the Or, And, or Not operators from the drop-down lists. (These operators let you include or exclude certain criteria from your search.)

  6. Tip:  You can also search for items using "wildcard" symbols. A wildcard is a symbol that represents a group of unknown search criteria.

If you do not know the exact term you want to search for, you may be able to enter part of a word followed by a wildcard symbol. The wildcard symbols are: a question mark (?) representing one unknown letter, an asterisk (*) representing one or more unknown letters.

Example: To search for all UN documents issued during the 58th General Assembly, enter search string "ARES58?", UNBISnet will return results with UN Document Symbol of "A/RES/58/8", "A/RES/58/9", "A/RES/58/7", etc. While, if you enter search string "ARES58*", UNBISnet will return results with UN Document Symbol of "A/RES/58/282", "A/RES/58/271A-C", "A/RES/58/1B", etc.

  7. If you want to use a pre-defined limit, choose a limiting option from the Limits drop-down list. (You can choose multiple limits by holding down CTRL and clicking each limit that you want to use.)

  8. You can define your own limit on voting date (action date). Choose a  Year of Voting and operator, then enter the 4-digit year under User Defined Limits.

  9. Choose the sorting option that you want from the Sorting drop-down list.

  10. Click Go.

UNBISnet returns a list of results based on the search criteria you entered. For more information on how to understand your search results, see Interpreting your search results.
