Summary: Outlines the steps taken or envisaged in response to calls by the Security Council to strengthen collaboration among the UN entities and their various partners to develop an integrated approach to conflict prevention in West Africa. Also provides an update on efforts by the UN Office for West Africa (UNOWA) and the wider international community to address some of the key subregional cross-border issues raised in the report of the Security Council Mission to West Africa, 2004 (S/2004/525), including: i) collaboration among various partners working towards peace and security; ii) combating the proliferation of small arms and light weapons, including recommendations on what further action the Security Council might take; iii) harmonizing disarmament, demobilization and reintegration programmes, with specific reference to programmes for women and children; iv) finding durable solutions to the problems of refugees; v) promoting reform of the security sector, including ways to address the phenomenon of roadblocks; and vi) developing integrated strategies in sensitive border zones.
